Difference between BIM and Revit

Source: united-bim.com

BIM stands for Building information modeling and is a process supported by various tools, technologies, and contracts involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places.

Revit is a building information modeling software for architects, landscape architects, structural engineers, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers, designers, and contractors.

Let's look at the difference in the detail

Revit:

This design and documentation platform enables you to use a single and integrated building information model to conceptualize, design, and finally document a project.

Revit software enables you to attain virtual modeling and the inbuilt tools are designed specifically to support BIM allowing users to create an intelligent model. Proper usage of these tools can avoid rework, minimize costs, detect conflicts.

BIM:

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based PROCESS that involves the digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility.

The role of BIM is to link all relating to a building and incorporating it to produce a comprehensive 3D model. BIM has to rely on different software to collect this information for a project and compile it together. Whereas Revit is one of the BIM software to create a base model and it helps in making a data-rich model based on the inputs.
