The 3Rs in Architecture !!!

Reduce, reuse and recycling is a universal principle and the growth of the A&D industry has even led to the successful application of the 3Rs in architecture too. 3R principle of reduce, reuse and recycle was created with the intention of minimizing the damage causing to the planet with the increased levels in pollutant emissions. 3Rs with sustainability has been promoted as a strategy to protect natu
ral resources and minimize waste. It is inarguable that the construction industry has a significant impact on the planet. Let's look at some of the possibilities of implementing the 3Rs in the field.

Reduce
Reduce or reduction in architecture predominantly aims at "zero wastage" and promoting the less usage of natural resources and products disrupting the balance of the eco-system (reduced energy consumption). The idea of reducing can also be highly complex, but becoming more resource-efficient is the key to sustainability. The natural mechanism of the continuous process of production, resorption, and recycling, regulating the usage is the major factor that helps in simplifying this complex idea in great levels.
Reduce in construction work depicts:
- Purchasing materials with minimum packaging
- Settling for products that can be used multiple times
- Hiring or taking tools/materials for lease instead of purchasing
- Avoiding pointless purchases
- Assuring regular maintenance for the longevity of the product
Reuse
Reuse in construction lookout for rescuing the discarded buildings from a destructive fate and making the ultimate out of the thrown out waste. Using materials over and over again without being processed is the main mantra of reuse in constructions as it is absolutely no usage of external energy.
Adaptive reuse is another concept usually used in construction under the 3R principle where materials and construction elements are used for repurposing structures.
Reuse in construction work quotes for:
- Repairing and refurbishing of products/materials
- Buying products from recycling centers
- Making best use of the surplus materials
- Regular maintenance
Recycle
Recycling in construction is where the requires and undergoes some efficient transformation before it is used somewhere else. The invention and proper usage of technologies to recycle construction materials are very much important because construction wastes count as a high-risk factor. To reduce carbon emissions recycling of construction elements had turned out to be a must lookout in this era.
Recycling in construction work denotes:
- Wastes from sites used in landfilling
- Upcycling the products
- Polishing the materials for making it fit to be used again
- Permitting transformation of materials to give it a new purpose

It's a pride to keep note and witness the growth of the A&D industry as several projects have been build with a design aimed at accomplishing this rule.
